Apple's crowded October: seven products, two launches, and the one date I actually care about

Home gear on the 13th, the iPhone Duo on the 16th, and rumored Macs at the end of the month. Here is what's confirmed, what's not, and the date I've got circled.

Apple usually treats October as a quiet follow-up to September. Not this year. If the reports are right, we're looking at seven or more new products before Halloween, spread across two separate launches. (9to5Mac) Here's how the month looks to me, from most confirmed to most rumored, and the one date I've got circled.

Bloomberg reports Apple will introduce its home lineup on October 13: a new Apple TV, a new HomePod mini, and the home hub with a built-in screen that people are calling HomePad. I covered what's rumored for that hub last weekend, so I won't repeat it all here.

The update since then is about format. AppleInsider expects this to be a press release and a video, not a full event with a stage and a keynote. (AppleInsider) Apple hasn't officially called it an event, so don't be surprised if it just shows up on the website that morning.

This is the part Apple has actually locked in. Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo open Friday, October 16, and first deliveries arrive October 23.

That's my date. Not because I'm buying one on day one, but because October 23 is when real people start opening apps on a folding iPhone. I've been testing my apps in the Xcode 27.1 iPhone Duo simulator and rearranging layouts for the unfolded screen. A simulator gets you close. It doesn't tell you how an app feels when someone unfolds the phone halfway through a task, or which buttons end up right in the crease under their thumb. Real hands will show me that within a week of launch, and I'd rather fix it before most people get theirs.

If you're a developer and you haven't opened your app in the Duo simulator yet, this is your two week warning.

MacRumors' anonymous sources say there's a second launch at the end of the month focused on Macs, earlier than the November timing people expected. (AppleInsider) What's being floated:

AppleInsider gives the whole thing a "possible" rating, which is fair. One anonymous report isn't a calendar invite.

The touchscreen Mac is the one I'd watch. Apple held out against it for years. If it actually ships, every Mac app suddenly has to think about fingers, not just a cursor. DayCast has a Mac version, so that would put me back in layout mode, same as the Duo. Bigger tap targets, spacing that works for a fingertip, all of it.

Bloomberg says a new iPad mini lands around the same time as the iPhone Duo, and earlier leaks point to an OLED display, an A20 Pro chip and thinner bezels. (9to5Mac) If that's true, it'd be the biggest update the mini has had in a while. No date yet.

For me, it's simple. October 23 is the date. Everything else is just a very busy month to watch.

Verified October 7, 2026. Only the iPhone Duo dates are confirmed by Apple. Everything else here is reported or rumored and could change. The studio's app lineup is at jcmobileappstudio.com/apps.
