Solecito Privacy Policy
Solecito is a bilingual, Spanish-first "learn to read" app for children on iPad, built and published by JC Mobile App Studio LLC. This policy covers the Solecito app specifically, and supplements the studio privacy policy. Solecito is currently available on iPad only.
Solecito is built for young children. It has no accounts, no analytics, and no ads, and it does not send anything to us. Your child's progress stays on the iPad. The one thing parents should know about is the microphone: Solecito records your child reading aloud, keeps the recordings of words read correctly on the iPad so you can listen to them, and uses Apple's on-device speech recognition to check the reading, so your child's voice is never sent to Apple, to us, or anyone else for recognition. Details are below.
Who we are
JC Mobile App Studio LLC, a one-person studio based in Pennsylvania, USA, is the developer and operator of Solecito. "We" and "us" in this policy mean JC Mobile App Studio LLC. You can reach us at [email protected].
Short version
- We do not receive any personal information about you or your child. Solecito has no accounts, no sign-in, and no server of ours.
- No analytics, advertising, or third-party SDKs of any kind. The app uses only Apple's built-in frameworks.
- Progress, settings, and the optional child nickname are stored only on the iPad.
- When your child reads a word aloud, the app records it. Recordings of correctly read words are saved on the iPad so a parent can play them back. Other recordings are temporary and replaced by the next one.
- Speech recognition runs only on the iPad. Solecito requires on-device recognition, so your child's voice is never sent to Apple's speech servers or anywhere else. On an iPad that cannot recognize Spanish on the device, "léelo tú" does not run and the app suggests the record-and-listen practice instead.
- Purchases, settings, and outside links sit behind a parental gate.
- We never sell or share any information.
What Solecito stores on the iPad
- Optional child nickname, either a name typed by a parent in the settings or a preset fun nickname picked by tapping the badge on the map.
- Learning progress, unlocked levels, stars, quiz scores, level visits, the review queue, words your child has mastered and the date of each, and which days the app was used (for the weekly parent recap).
- Settings, such as English hints, calm mode, the wind-down timer, and the parent's weekly goal.
- Read-aloud recordings, described in the next section.
- Purchase status, which Apple's StoreKit keeps on the device.
None of this is sent to us. If you have iCloud Backup or computer backups turned on, iPadOS includes Solecito's data, including saved recordings, in those backups, which Apple or your computer store under your control.
Microphone, recordings, and speech recognition
Solecito asks for Microphone and Speech Recognition permission the first time your child taps a read-aloud feature. If you decline, the rest of Solecito works normally.
- "Léelo tú" (read it yourself). While your child reads a word aloud, the app records the audio to a temporary file and plays it back to them. If the word is read correctly, a copy of that recording is saved on the iPad in the app's storage so a parent can hear it in the parent dashboard. Recordings of attempts that were not correct are kept only in a temporary file that is replaced by the next attempt.
- Echo reading. Your child reads a sentence while the iPad records for up to 6 seconds, then hears their own voice. This recording goes to a temporary file that is replaced by the next one. It is not sent to speech recognition.
- Speech recognition. To check a "léelo tú" read, Solecito uses Apple's speech recognition in Spanish, and it requires on-device recognition every time. The audio and the transcript are processed only on the iPad and are never sent to Apple's speech servers, to us, or to anyone else. If the iPad cannot recognize Spanish on the device (for example, an older iPad, or before iPadOS has downloaded the Spanish speech model), "léelo tú" does not listen, and the app suggests the "grábate" record-and-listen practice instead.
- Spoken words and cheers come from recordings built into the app and Apple's on-device text to speech.
What we receive vs. what third parties receive
What we receive: nothing. Solecito does not connect to any server we operate, and we have no way to see your child's nickname, progress, or recordings.
Third parties: only Apple, under Apple's privacy policy:
- App Store purchases, including Family Sharing and Ask to Buy, are handled by Apple.
- iCloud Backup, only if you have it turned on.
When a parent opens this privacy policy from inside the app, it opens in the browser, and our website receives the usual web request described in the studio privacy policy. A parent can also share or print a PDF of the stories; it goes only where the parent sends it.
Purchases
Solecito is free to start, with optional one-time purchases (an "Acceso" unlock and per-world add-ons). These are non-consumable in-app purchases billed through Apple's App Store, and they work with Family Sharing. Apple handles payment, so we never see your card or Apple Account details. All purchases sit behind a parental gate so a child cannot buy on their own.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
Solecito is directed to children and is listed in the App Store Kids category. We built it so that we do not collect personal information from children.
- What is collected from or about a child. Nothing reaches us. On the iPad, the app keeps the optional nickname, learning progress, and your child's voice recordings of words read correctly, as described above. Speech recognition runs only on the iPad, so your child's voice is not sent to Apple or anyone else.
- Who can see it. Anyone using the iPad can play back saved recordings from the parent dashboard, which is behind the parental gate. We cannot see any of it.
- Third parties. Your child's voice, recordings, nickname, and progress are not sent to any third party. Apple handles App Store purchases, and iCloud Backup if you have it turned on, as listed above. No analytics, advertising, or other third-party services are in the app.
- Parental review and deletion. Parents can listen to saved recordings and see progress in the parent dashboard. To delete progress and all saved recordings, open the parent settings and tap "reiniciar progreso" (purchases are kept). To change or clear the nickname, edit it in the parent settings. Deleting Solecito from the iPad removes everything it stored.
- Data retention. Saved recordings, progress, and the nickname stay on the iPad until a parent resets progress, edits the nickname, or deletes the app, and in any device backups until those backups are replaced. Temporary recordings are replaced by the next recording and may be cleared by iPadOS. We hold no children's data, so there is nothing on our side to retain or delete.
Data retention
Everything Solecito stores stays on the iPad until you reset progress or delete the app. We do not hold any Solecito data on any server.
Sale, sharing, and targeted advertising
We do not sell or share personal data, and Solecito has no ads or advertising SDKs.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon, Indiana, Kentucky, Rhode Island and other US states, or the EU/UK), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or get a copy of personal data, and to opt out of targeted advertising, sale, or profiling. Many of these laws may not apply to a studio our size, but we honor these requests from everyone.
Because Solecito keeps everything on the iPad, you can review and delete it yourself as described above. For any question or request, email [email protected]. We respond within 45 days, and we will not treat you differently for asking. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer with "Appeal," and we will respond within 45 days (60 days at most, as some laws allow). If your appeal is denied, you may contact your state attorney general.
International users
We do not hold any Solecito data. Any data handled by Apple is processed under Apple's own policies.
Security
Solecito's data lives on the iPad, so it is protected by iPadOS and your device passcode. We recommend a passcode on the iPad and two-factor authentication on your Apple Account.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the "Last updated" line above and post the new version at this URL. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
