Kynd Privacy Policy
Kynd is an ADHD focus app for iPhone, Apple Watch, Android, and Wear OS, built and published by JC Mobile App Studio LLC. This policy covers the Kynd app specifically, and supplements the studio privacy policy.
Kynd is built around the idea that an ADHD focus app should not be one more place your private thinking gets sent away. This policy explains, plainly, what the app does with your data, what reaches us, and what reaches anyone else.
Who we are
JC Mobile App Studio LLC, a one-person studio based in Pennsylvania, USA, makes Kynd and is responsible for how it handles your data. "We" and "us" in this policy mean JC Mobile App Studio LLC. You can reach us at [email protected].
Short version
- No analytics, no ads, no tracking, no accounts. We don't know how you use the app.
- Your tasks, inbox, routines, energy check-ins, and history are stored on your device. On iPhone you can turn on iCloud sync (Premium), which keeps a copy in your own iCloud account. On Android, the same data can ride along in Android's own backup to your Google account.
- Voice capture turns speech into text. Kynd does not save audio files. Transcription runs on your device when your phone supports it, and otherwise goes to Apple's or Google's speech service.
- AI features run on your device by default. On iPhone with iOS 27, Premium users can opt in to Apple's Private Cloud Compute for two features. Kynd never uses OpenAI, Anthropic, or any other third-party AI service.
- The only server we operate is the coworking token service. If you join a coworking room, it receives a random ID, your chosen display name, and the room you picked, and your microphone audio (only while you are unmuted) streams live through LiveKit.
- Apple Health or Health Connect data (sleep and workouts) is read on your device and never sent anywhere.
- We never sell your data or use it for advertising.
What reaches us, and what reaches third parties
Data that reaches systems we operate:
- Kynd coworking token service (
coworking.jcmobileappstudio.com), a Cloudflare Worker, only when you open the coworking screen or join a room. Details in "Coworking" below. Nothing else in Kynd talks to us.
Data handled by third parties under their own policies:
- LiveKit, the real-time audio provider for coworking rooms (audio while unmuted, your random ID, display name, room, join and leave times). livekit.io/privacy
- Cloudflare, which runs the token service and sees standard request data such as your IP address. cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
- Apple (iPhone): App Store purchases, iCloud sync if you turn it on, speech recognition when on-device recognition isn't available, and Private Cloud Compute if you opt in. apple.com/legal/privacy
- Google (Android): Google Play purchases, Android backup, speech recognition when on-device recognition isn't available, and the phone to watch connection through Google Play services. policies.google.com/privacy
Where your data lives
Your tasks, inbox, routines, recurring templates, energy check-ins and energy history, lifetime counters, and settings are stored on your device (iOS UserDefaults and a shared App Group container for widgets on iPhone; app storage on Android). Deleting the app removes them from the device.
AI features
Kynd uses AI to suggest a smallest next step, break a task down, sort a brain dump into separate tasks, and phrase a short evening note.
- iPhone, default: Apple's on-device FoundationModels model (iOS 26 and later). Your text is processed on your iPhone. On older iOS versions a built-in rule-based fallback runs on your iPhone instead.
- iPhone, optional Private Cloud Compute: In Settings, Intelligence, "Bigger brain for hard tasks" is off by default and needs Premium and iOS 27. When you turn it on, the text of the task you ask to break down, or the text of your brain dump, is sent to Apple's Private Cloud Compute model to be processed. Apple designed Private Cloud Compute so that requests are not stored and are not readable by Apple. It does not reach us. If Apple's daily limit is reached or the request fails, that request runs on your iPhone instead. Each result says which model made it. The smallest next step suggestion and the evening note always stay on your iPhone.
- Android: Google's on-device Gemini Nano model through ML Kit, where your phone supports it, with a rule-based fallback on your phone otherwise. Kynd on Android has no cloud AI option.
Kynd does not use any third-party AI service. No OpenAI, no Anthropic, no Google cloud model. Nothing you type is sent to us for AI.
What Kynd accesses on your device
Microphone and speech recognition (optional). When you tap the microphone to capture a thought or do a brain dump, Kynd turns your speech into text. Kynd does not save audio recordings; only the resulting text is kept, on your device.
- On iPhone, quick capture uses Apple's speech recognizer and requires on-device recognition when your iPhone supports it. If it doesn't, the audio goes to Apple's speech service to be transcribed. The brain dump uses Apple's on-device SpeechAnalyzer on iOS 26 and later.
- On Android, Kynd uses the on-device recognizer when your phone has one (Android 12 and later) and asks for offline recognition. If your phone has no on-device recognizer, your phone's speech service (usually Google) may process the audio in the cloud.
The microphone is also used during coworking rooms, only while you are unmuted (see "Coworking"). You can deny microphone access and still use the rest of the app.
Sleep and workouts (optional, off by default). If you turn on "Suggest energy from sleep + activity" in Settings, Kynd reads your sleep from last night and your recent workouts from Apple Health (iPhone) or Health Connect (Android). It uses them to suggest a green, yellow, or red energy level on the Today screen. Kynd only reads, never writes, and never sends these values anywhere.
Calendar (optional, off by default). Kynd has two calendar features, each with its own toggle in Settings.
- "Show next event on Today" reads the title and start time of your next event today and shows it as a small chip. Read only.
- "Create calendar blocks when you Focus" writes an event to your default calendar when you start a Focus session. The event title is the task step (or "Kynd focus session") and the length matches your session. If you end early, Kynd shortens or removes the block. Your calendar app or account (for example iCloud or Google Calendar) may sync that event like any other.
You can revoke calendar access at any time in your phone's settings.
Focus shield (optional, off by default). On iPhone, Kynd uses Apple's Screen Time APIs to put apps you pick behind a gentle shield during a Focus session. iOS stores your app list; Kynd never sees which apps you picked. On Android, the shield needs "Usage access" and "Display over other apps". Kynd uses usage access only to see which app is in front during a Focus session so it can show the shield. That information stays on your phone and is not stored or sent anywhere.
Notifications. Reminders and Focus alerts are scheduled on your device. No notification content is sent through us.
iCloud sync (iPhone)
iCloud sync is a Premium option and is off by default. If you turn it on, Kynd writes a compact snapshot of your tasks, inbox, routines, recurring templates, energy history, current energy, and lifetime counters to Apple's iCloud Key-Value store under your own Apple Account. Apple encrypts it in transit and at rest. We cannot access it.
Kynd uses last-write-wins. If you edit on two devices at the same moment, the most recent change is kept. There is no version history.
If you turn iCloud sync off, no further data is sent. Existing iCloud data remains until you delete it in your Apple Account's iCloud storage settings, or until you reset Kynd while sync is on (see "Data deletion").
Android backup
On Android, Kynd allows Android's built-in backup. If backup is turned on for your phone, Android may copy Kynd's settings file, which holds your tasks, routines, energy history, and coworking settings, to your Google account backup, and restore it on a new phone. This is handled by Google, not by us, and we cannot read it. Your Premium status is excluded; Google Play restores that. You can turn backup off in your phone's settings.
Coworking (audio rooms)
Coworking is a Premium feature. Before your first room, Kynd shows a one-time consent screen explaining what is shared. You can decline and keep using everything else. If you join a room:
- A random coworking ID. Kynd creates a random ID (UUID) the first time you use coworking. It is not your Apple Account, Google account, email, name, or a device identifier. On iPhone it is stored only on your device. On Android it is in the settings file that Android backup may restore on a new phone.
- Your display name. Whatever you typed in coworking settings is shown to other people in the room. Leave it blank to appear as "Focus partner." Kynd also sends the intent you typed to the token service, which ignores it and does not store it.
- Your microphone audio while you are unmuted. You start every room muted. When unmuted, your audio streams live through LiveKit to the other people in the room. Kynd does not ask LiveKit to record rooms, and we do not record them.
The systems involved:
- Kynd token service (
coworking.jcmobileappstudio.com), a Cloudflare Worker we operate. It returns the list of rooms and, when you join, checks your request and returns a LiveKit access token that expires after 50 minutes. To keep costs bounded, it stores a count of coworking minutes used this month, keyed by your random ID, and a short hourly request counter keyed by your IP address. It also keeps request logs, which include your IP address, through Cloudflare's logging. - LiveKit Cloud, the third-party real-time audio provider. LiveKit receives your audio while you are unmuted, your random ID, display name, the room, and when you joined and left, and keeps session records under its own policy at livekit.io/privacy.
Widgets, Live Activities, and watches
Widgets and the Focus Live Activity read a small summary (your next step, energy color, and session end time) from storage on your device. On Apple Watch, changes you make are sent to your iPhone through Apple's WatchConnectivity. On Wear OS, they go through Google Play services' Wearable Data Layer. Both are links between your own devices, not to us.
Subscriptions
Kynd Premium is billed through Apple's App Store on iPhone and Google Play on Android. Apple or Google handles the payment; we never see your card or account details. The app checks your subscription status with Apple or Google and stores it on your device. Family Sharing on iPhone is managed by Apple.
Consumer health data
Some data in Kynd can be considered consumer health data under laws like Washington's My Health My Data Act and Nevada's similar law.
- Categories: sleep and workout records you let Kynd read, the energy levels you log or accept, and your use of an ADHD focus app (your tasks, captures, and brain dumps may reflect your health or wellbeing).
- Sources: you, and Apple Health or Health Connect when you allow access.
- Purpose: only to run the features you use, such as suggesting an energy level and organizing your tasks.
- Where it goes: it is processed on your device. Sleep and workout data never leaves it. Your tasks and energy history go to your own iCloud if you turn on sync, to your Google backup if Android backup is on, and task or brain dump text goes to Apple's Private Cloud Compute only if you opt in. None of it reaches us, and we do not share it with anyone else.
- We never sell health data and never use it for advertising.
- Your rights: you can delete it at any time with Settings, Reset all Kynd data, or by removing Health access in your phone's settings. You can also contact us with any request under "Your privacy rights".
Data retention
- On-device data: until you delete it, reset Kynd, or uninstall the app.
- iCloud or Android backup copies: until you delete them through Apple or Google.
- Coworking minute counter (our Cloudflare Worker): a single running total for the current month, keyed by your random ID. It is overwritten each month and holds nothing else. The hourly IP counter is overwritten every hour.
- Cloudflare request logs: kept for a limited period set by Cloudflare's logging service, then deleted automatically.
- LiveKit session records: kept by LiveKit under its own policy.
Sale, sharing, and targeted advertising
We do not sell personal data. We do not share it for targeted advertising. Kynd has no ads and no advertising or analytics SDKs, and does not use your advertising ID.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon, Indiana, Kentucky, Rhode Island and other US states, or the EU/UK), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or get a copy of personal data, and to opt out of targeted advertising, sale, or profiling. Many of these laws may not apply to a studio our size, but we honor these requests from everyone.
To make a request, email [email protected]. For coworking data, include your coworking ID if you can, since that is the only way we can find it. We respond within 45 days, and we won't treat you differently for asking. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer with "Appeal", and we'll respond within 45 days (60 days at most, as some laws allow). If your appeal is denied, you may contact your state attorney general.
Data export and deletion
Settings, Export tasks and routines saves a JSON file of your tasks, inbox, and routines.
Settings, Reset all Kynd data erases your tasks, inbox, routines, energy history, counters, and coworking name and consent from your device. If iCloud sync is on, the next sync replaces the iCloud copy with the empty state. The reset does not change the coworking ID or the minute counter stored on our Worker; email us if you want that counter deleted, and we will delete it.
Children
Kynd is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has used coworking and want related data deleted, contact us and we will delete it.
International users
The little data that reaches us (the coworking minute counter and request logs) is processed in the United States and on Cloudflare's network.
Security
Everything Kynd sends over the network uses encrypted connections (HTTPS and secure WebRTC). Data on your device is protected by your phone's own security, so a strong passcode helps. We keep what reaches us to the minimum the coworking feature needs.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" line above and post the new version at this URL. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
