Frequently asked questions
What is WavCast?
WavCast is one app for podcasts, live internet radio, and local news. It is a client and a tuner, not a catalog. It reads open public sources, the Podcast Index and podcast RSS, the Radio-Browser station directory, and public news feeds including Google News RSS, and streams each show or station directly from the publisher or broadcaster to your phone. Nothing is hosted or rebroadcast here, and there is no account to create.
How do I remove ads?
WavCast is free and supported by ads through Google AdMob. Those include banners, plus full-screen interstitials and an occasional ad when you open the app. There are three ways to turn them off:
- Remove Ads, a one-time $5.99 USD purchase. Ads only, nothing else.
- WavCast Plus, yearly, an auto-renewing subscription at $9.99 USD per year with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. It renews every year until you cancel.
- WavCast Plus, lifetime, a one-time $19.99 USD purchase that never renews.
Either Plus option includes ad-free listening plus unlimited on-device AI, imported audio, and the power-listener features. Once purchased, ads are off on your device.
I bought Remove Ads but still see ads, or I switched devices.
Tap the upgrade banner in WavCast to open the Plus screen, then tap Restore at the bottom. That is the purchase restore, signed in with the same Apple Account you bought with. The Restore from iCloud item in Settings is a different thing, it brings back your library, not your purchase. If you are already Plus the upgrade banner is hidden, which is itself the sign that the purchase is active.
What do the ads collect?
Ads are served by Google AdMob. The first time you open WavCast, iOS asks whether to allow tracking. If you allow it, your device's advertising identifier is shared with Google and its ad partners to personalise ads. If you decline, you still see ads, just untargeted ones, and nothing about you is shared. You can change the answer at any time in the Settings app under Privacy & Security, Tracking. Buying Remove Ads or either Plus option turns the ads, and the tracking prompt, off entirely.
My subscriptions or listening progress did not sync to another device.
iCloud sync is off until you turn it on, and it never runs on its own. Open Settings, Account, turn on iCloud Sync, then tap Sync Now. Do that on each device, signed in to the same iCloud account. Sync covers your subscriptions, radio favorites, bookmarks, folders, and episode progress. Downloads and app preferences stay on each device on purpose.
How does Detect My City and local news work?
In the News tab you can pick a city manually or tap Detect My City. If you use detection, your phone asks for one-time location permission and sends the coordinates to Apple's geocoding service once to get a city name back. The coordinates are never stored. The city name is stored on your device, and you can change or clear it at any time.
How do I generate a transcript for an episode?
For a downloaded podcast episode that does not already include a transcript, you can generate one. WavCast uses Apple's on-device speech recognition, so the audio never leaves your device. The episode must be downloaded first, and longer episodes take more time. The first transcript in a new language downloads that language's model once.
How do Ask This Episode, summaries and the news briefing work?
They all read from the episode's transcript or, for the briefing, the headlines on the News tab. On iPhones running iOS 27 they use Apple Foundation Models on Private Cloud Compute, Apple's private server environment, which lets WavCast read a whole episode in one go; on other devices they run on the phone with Apple Intelligence. Nothing is sent to any other company. Every result says which of the two produced it. The free version includes a monthly allowance of generations; WavCast Plus removes the limit. If Apple's daily allowance for Private Cloud Compute runs out, WavCast falls back to the on-device model until it resets.
Which video podcasts play with video?
Any show that publishes a video file in its RSS feed. The picture appears in the player, keeps playing when you leave the app, and supports Picture in Picture. Shows that put their video only on YouTube or Spotify play as audio, because their feeds contain only audio; no app can change that.
Does WavCast work in the car, on a watch, and with widgets?
Yes. WavCast supports CarPlay and Lock Screen controls, has an Apple Watch app, Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, Play/Pause and Play Station controls for Control Center, and includes a Share Extension for sending links into the app. Links shared from WavCast open the app at that moment when it is installed, and a web page otherwise.
A radio station or podcast will not play.
Streams and feeds are hosted by the original broadcasters and publishers, not by WavCast, so a station can go offline or change its stream address on their end. Check your internet connection first. If a specific station or show is consistently broken, email us the name and we will look into it.
How do I request a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple, not the developer. If you are on the yearly Plus subscription and want to stop it renewing, open the Settings app, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, and select WavCast. For a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, find the WavCast charge, and request a refund.
I found a bug or have a feature request.
We would love to hear it. Email [email protected] with the subject line "Feedback" and as much detail as you can share.
