Frequently asked questions

What is VeraCast?

VeraCast turns the forecast into a plain language daily briefing, then backs it with animated radar, National Weather Service alerts, earthquake and hurricane notifications, twenty-two activity outlooks, a five day pollen forecast, a Pet Walk card, and an astro-weather horoscope. No ads, no analytics, no account.

How is the AI daily briefing generated?

There are three paths, and VeraCast takes the most private one your iPhone can do. If your iPhone supports Apple Intelligence, the briefing is written on the device and nothing leaves it. If it does not, VeraCast tries Apple's Private Cloud Compute on iOS 27, which Apple designed so that even Apple cannot read the request. If neither is available, the briefing is written by Google's Gemini so you still get one.

In that last case the request goes to our own server first, which holds the API key and passes it on to Google, so Google never sees anything tying the request to you. What is sent is your location's name, the relevant weather, and any personalisation you set, such as a display name or pet name. Never your coordinates, and never an account, because there isn't one. See the Privacy Policy for details.

What does VeraCast Premium include?

Premium unlocks the Astro-Weather Horoscope, Trip Planner, animated radar, smart rain and storm alerts, extra AI briefing tones, and Home Screen, Lock Screen, and Apple Watch widgets, unlimited saved cities, the 7 day briefing, Ask Vera, the extended 16 day forecast, marine conditions, and the Pet Walk card. Pricing is $16.99 USD per year with a 3 day free trial for new subscribers, or $2.49 USD per month. Free gives you the daily briefing, severe weather alerts, weather news, up to 3 saved cities, and three of the activity outlooks, Cycling, Running and Gardening. Ask Vera needs an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, because it runs entirely on the device. Premium auto-renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.

How do I manage or cancel Premium?

Premium is billed through Apple. To view, change, or cancel:

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • Tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions.
  • Select VeraCast to change plan or cancel.

You can also visit apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

How do I restore Premium on a new device?

Open VeraCast, go to Settings, then tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID that purchased Premium.

Which countries and alerts are supported?

VeraCast is available in 26 countries. Severe weather watches and warnings come from the National Weather Service and are US only for now, international alert support is on the roadmap. Forecasts use Apple WeatherKit with Open-Meteo as a backup, RainViewer for radar, USGS for earthquakes, and Google's Pollen API for pollen.

What is the Pet Walk card?

The Pet Walk card is a Premium feature. It reads current conditions and tells you at a glance whether it is a Great, OK, or Skip moment to walk the dog, then adds a short tip using the pet name you enter in Settings. The verdict itself is always computed on the device from temperature, precipitation, wind, and storm risk. The tip is written by the same briefing AI, so on an iPhone that cannot run it on device, that sentence follows the cloud path described above.

How do I request a refund?

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not the developer. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, find the VeraCast charge, and request a refund.

Is my data private?

Yes. VeraCast has no ads, no accounts, and no analytics. Three things do leave your iPhone. Your location goes to the weather providers above to return your forecast. When the AI briefing or horoscope has to run in the cloud, your location name and weather go through our server to Google, as described above. And if you turn on severe weather notifications, your device's push token and the National Weather Service zone for your area are stored on our server so the alert can be sent to you, refreshing when you move a few miles. That record is a push token and a weather zone, not a name, an account, or your coordinates, and turning notifications off stops it. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what's sent and when.
