Frequently asked questions
What is FlickDrop?
FlickDrop is a private catalog for people who still buy movies on disc. Scan the barcode on a DVD, Blu-ray or 4K UHD and it identifies the exact release, steelbook, box set and label included, and files it by genre. Each title shows whether it is streaming on your services, elsewhere, or disc-only. In a store, scan to check whether you already own it. Your collection syncs through your own iCloud, with no account, no ads and no subscription. It is free for up to 50 discs, and FlickDrop Pro is a one-time $14.99 purchase for an unlimited collection.
Tips for scanning barcodes
Hold the phone about a hand's width from the case, with the barcode flat and in even light. FlickDrop reads several barcodes in one frame, so you can point it at a row of spines or a stack of cases and let it work through them. Glossy slipcovers and steelbooks reflect light, so tilt the case slightly to lose the glare. For a box set, scan the barcode on the outer box, not the individual cases inside. If a barcode is scratched or won't read, tap Search and type the title instead. VHS and LaserDisc barcodes scan too, though fewer of them are in the databases.
The scan found the wrong edition. How do I fix it?
On the scan card tap Not this?, or open the disc and choose Edit disc from the menu. Choose the right format, edition and label, or search for the correct release, and your copy is updated. You can also take a photo of the cover. Your correction is sent anonymously to the community edition database, so the next collector who scans the same barcode gets the right release. It carries a random installation identifier and never your name, email or Apple ID. The same applies when a barcode isn't recognized at all: add the details yourself and, if you like, share them.
How do box sets work?
A box set is one disc entry in your collection that contains its individual films. Open the set to see each film with its own detail page and its own watched state, so you can mark the second film in a trilogy watched without touching the others. Collection counts show both the number of sets and the number of films inside them. If a box set came back as a single film, open the disc, choose Edit disc, and turn on Box set to list the films inside.
Why does a title show as disc-only?
Disc-only means none of the streaming services FlickDrop knows about in your country offer that title right now, to stream, rent or buy. Many films, especially older ones and particular cuts, never come to streaming, which is a good reason to keep the disc. Streaming data comes from TMDB's watch providers, powered by JustWatch, and is refreshed when you open a title, so a film can move from disc-only to streaming and back as licenses change. Check that your services are set in Settings, Streaming services, and that your country there matches where you live.
iCloud sync isn't working between my devices.
Both devices need to be signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud turned on, and FlickDrop turned on under Settings, your name, iCloud, Saved to iCloud. Open FlickDrop on both devices and give it a minute on Wi-Fi. If iCloud storage is full, sync pauses until you free space. Low Power Mode and Low Data Mode also slow it down. There is no FlickDrop account to sign in to, so if sync still stalls, email us and we will help. Your collection is never on our servers.
How do I restore FlickDrop Pro on a new device?
FlickDrop Pro is a one-time purchase tied to your Apple Account, not a subscription. On a new iPhone or iPad signed in to the same account, open Settings in FlickDrop and tap Restore purchase. It also unlocks by itself the first time the app checks with the App Store. Family Sharing applies if you have it turned on for purchases. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
How do I import from CLZ Movies, My Movies or another app?
Export your collection as CSV from the other app (CLZ Movies, My Movies, Blu-ray.com and Letterboxd all offer one), save the file to Files or iCloud Drive, then open FlickDrop, go to Settings, Import and export and pick the file. FlickDrop recognizes each app's column layout and matches titles to releases, using the barcode column when the export has one. Titles it can't match are listed for you to confirm or fix by hand. Imports count toward the 50-disc free limit; Pro removes it. Export to CSV from the same screen is always free, so your data is never locked in.
How does FlickDrop work on iPhone Duo and iPad?
On iPhone, your collection is a list with the detail page on top. Open an iPhone Duo or turn an iPad sideways and FlickDrop lays out two columns: the collection on one side and the title you tapped on the other, so you can browse a shelf without losing your place. On iPad it also works in Split View and Stage Manager, and the scanner uses the full camera view. Your collection is the same on every device through iCloud.
How do I delete my data?
Deleting the app removes everything stored on that device. To remove the iCloud copy as well, open Settings in FlickDrop and choose Erase all data, which clears the device and your private iCloud database together, or go to your iPhone's Settings, your name, iCloud, Manage Account Storage, FlickDrop. Edition fixes you shared with the community database are anonymous and can't be traced back to you. If you would like a cover photo you submitted taken down, email us the title and barcode.
Does FlickDrop collect my data?
No. There is no account, no analytics and no ads. Your collection stays on your devices and in your own iCloud. Barcode lookups and the edition fixes you choose to share are anonymous, and film details come from TMDB. The details are in the privacy policy.
Questions or concerns?
If your question is not answered above, or something isn't working the way it should, use the form below or email [email protected] with "FlickDrop" in the subject. A real person reads every message and usually replies within 1 to 2 business days, in English or Español. For a scan that went wrong, tell us your device, the barcode number and the title on the case, and a photo of the cover helps.
