Almanak Privacy Policy
Almanak is a wallpaper app for iPhone, iPad, iPhone Duo, Mac and Android (phones, tablets, foldables and Googlebooks), made by JC Mobile App Studio LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what Almanak keeps, what leaves your device and where it goes.
In short: Almanak collects nothing about you. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. The app downloads the wallpaper catalog and the pictures you look at from our website, and everything you choose stays on your device. This page lists every case, so you don't have to take our word for the summary.
1. What Almanak stores, on your device only
- Your choices: the sets you add to My Almanak, your favorites, settings such as Follow the seasons, and whether you have seen the welcome screens.
- Downloaded pictures: wallpapers and thumbnails you have viewed, kept so the app, your Shortcuts automation and the automatic change on Android work without a connection. You can clear them in Settings, Storage.
- The wallpaper catalog: the list of packs and wallpapers, refreshed from our website.
- A small counter for rating requests (iPhone, iPad and Mac): the days you opened the app (the last 30 at most) and how many saves or desktop changes worked. It decides when Almanak may ask you, through Apple's standard rating prompt, to rate the app. The Android app has no rating prompt. Apple shows that prompt at most three times a year, never if you turned it off in your device settings, and any rating goes to Apple, not to us.
- On the Mac: the current desktop picture, kept in the app's own folder so macOS can keep showing it, and your automatic change and open-at-login choices.
- On Android: whether the automatic change is on, which screen it changes (Home, Lock or both), the name of the last wallpaper it set, and your appearance and touch feedback settings.
None of this is sent to us. It is never linked to your name, email, Apple Account or any identifier, because Almanak does not ask for any. Like other app data, it may be included in your device's own backup: iCloud or your computer under Apple's terms, or Android's backup to your Google Account under Google's terms. We cannot read those backups.
2. What leaves your device, and where it goes
This is the complete list.
- The catalog and the pictures. Almanak downloads the catalog file and wallpaper images from jcmobileappstudio.com, which is served by Cloudflare. Like any web request, the server receives your IP address and the name of the file requested. The app sends nothing else: no identifier, no list of your sets, no usage data. We do not use these requests to identify you or build a profile.
- Links you tap. Support, the privacy policy, the terms and Wallpapers on the web open in your browser. More from the studio opens the App Store on Apple devices and Google Play on Android. Those are ordinary visits under the site's, Apple's or Google's own policies.
- Email. If you email us or use the support form, we receive what you send and use it only to answer you.
3. What we do not do
- No accounts, sign-in or email collection.
- No analytics, crash-reporting or advertising software. On Apple devices Almanak uses Apple's frameworks only; on Android it uses Google's Android libraries (Jetpack) and the open-source Coil image loader, none of which send data to us or to anyone else.
- No tracking across apps or websites, and no advertising identifier.
- No selling or sharing of data, because there is none to sell.
- No reading of your photo library. Almanak can only add photos, on iPhone and on Android.
If you turn on Share With App Developers in your device settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash and usage statistics. That is Apple's program, and it is off unless you enable it. On Android, if you have chosen to share usage and diagnostics with Google, Google Play may show us anonymous crash and performance statistics. That is Google's program, under your device settings.
4. Permissions Almanak asks for
| Permission | Why | If you say no |
|---|---|---|
| Photos, add only (iPhone and iPad) | Saving a wallpaper or a Lock and Home pair to Photos so you can set it | Saving is unavailable. Everything else works. |
| None on the Mac | The Mac app sets your desktop picture through macOS directly | Not applicable |
| Set wallpaper (Android) | Setting your Home Screen and Lock Screen when you tap Set as wallpaper, and for the automatic change. Granted when you install; Android does not ask. | Not applicable |
| Run at startup (Android) | Re-arming the automatic change after the device restarts or the clock changes. It does nothing if the automatic change is off. | Not applicable |
| Internet and network state (Android) | Downloading the catalog and the pictures | Not applicable |
| Keep awake briefly (Android) | Lets the automatic change finish setting a picture if the screen turns off mid-change | Not applicable |
| Vibrate (Android) | Touch feedback, which you can turn off in Settings | Not applicable |
| None for photos on Android | Save to Photos adds the picture to Pictures, Almanak through Android's media store, which needs no permission on Android 10 and later and cannot see your other photos | Not applicable |
5. Shortcuts, automations and the automatic change
The Get Wallpaper for Now action runs on your device. It reads your Almanak choices and returns a picture to your shortcut. Shortcuts and the Set Wallpaper Photo action are Apple's, and the automation is yours: we never see it.
On Android and on the Mac, Almanak changes the wallpaper itself when you turn the automatic change on. It works out the picture for the hour on your device, downloads it from our website if it is not saved yet, and sets it. Nothing about it is sent to us.
6. Your choices
- Clear downloaded pictures in Settings, Storage.
- Turn off the automatic change on the Automatic tab on Android, or on the Now screen on the Mac.
- Remove everything on iPhone, iPad and Android by deleting the app. On the Mac, delete the app, then the folder Library/Containers/com.jcmappstudio.almanak in your home folder, which macOS keeps for sandboxed apps.
- Questions or requests about privacy: write to us, and we will answer. Since we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to export or delete.
7. Children
Almanak is rated 9+ and collects no information from anyone, including children.
8. Security
Downloads use HTTPS. Your choices stay on your device, protected by its passcode and encryption.
9. Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date above, and for a material change we will say so in the app.
